Hello, Taiga creators and users. As a newbie to Taiga I want to ask whether it can be used/mapped efficiently for managing business or any other type of project that is not a ‘software’ project? Like Jira Core as an example.
It certainly can be used for non software projects, we have users managing all kinds of projects both related and not related to software, from healthcare to manufacturing. It may take some customization of the role names and such, but it is definitely doable. One of the core principles of Taiga has always been ease of use for people who may not be as “techie” as other project management apps demand.
As to how efficiently mapped it can be, it depends on your needs. Do you have any particular use case in mind?
Thank you, Charlie. Let me try setting up a couple of projects and see how it goes.
I believe one way to use Taiga for business is by not exposing software project specific functionality like Epics and User Stories and renaming standard roles and statuses?
Indeed, renaming the default roles and statuses should work.
Regarding User Stories, they are the “base unit” in Taiga, aside from issues. They are not specific to software development. Both in scrum and in kanban modules, you create User Stories, and those user stories can contain tasks.
As for Epics, they are not specific to software development either. You can think about them as big milestones, longer tasks that can span longer time, effort, and even multiple projects!
Alright, points taken, yet EPICs and User Stories are the things you find in applications which are primarily written for software development process automation and management. They can be ‘re-purposed’ for general use, however, as far as I could see, they can’t be renamed to something what makes more sense for a business user - we can’t change the labels for EPICs to Milestones, user stories to Objectives or Master Tasks - is this correct?
@Ascar I would recommend https://vikunja.io. It allows you more flexibility to manage business tasks with more collaboration on can happen on each task. There are deadlines and Gantt chart mapping feature that I use for my business.
Don’t get me wrong, Taiga is amazing for managing small software development project, but not to manage business tasks.
