Hello everyone!
With regards to finding a new home for TaigaNext, and after much consideration, we’re thrilled to announce that the project by French cooperative BIRU has won our hearts!
Julie and Paul and the rest of the BIRU team will soon share their plans, including a redesigned name and brand. Stay tuned!
The original Taiga team at Kaleidos would like to express its gratitude for all the support and love towards TaigaNext. We believe that this continuation of such an amazing project is possible thanks to its open source nature and the desire to see the project evolve even if it won’t be us who will lead the development anymore.
There are a few next steps that we need to carry out.
- Deliver the agreed financial support to BIRU so they can continue with their own investment and hiring processes.
- If necessary, establish a simple protocol to transfer copyright of the existing codebase.
- Archive the TaigaNext section on this Taiga community space. In due time, BIRU will share the new home for their project.
This doesn’t impact the “business as usual” around Taiga, which will continue to evolve and operate normally via Taiga Cloud Services.
I would like to thank everyone that approached us to discuss potential partnerships around TaigaNext. We really enjoyed having all those conversations, which further proved the exciting nature of TaigaNext from various different perspectives.
With this announcement, Kaleidos finalizes the transition from being a two-product company (Penpot and Taiga) to a one-product company (Penpot). Taiga Cloud Services has been operating Taiga6+ for several months now and BIRU, from now on, will reignite TaigaNext under a new name.
¡Viva el Open Source!
